what are the safe ways to halt the RP

Post by Tomaok » Mon Jan 23, 2017 3:01 pm

Hi every body,

I plan to make en instrument with the RP, but i wonder which way is safe enough to halt it.
Since a part of the file system is in read only, i figure we can halt it(brutally) with a power off?
For now it doesn't seems to be a problem!
Or should i prefer to go trough a proper way with a software button on the UI (and a hardware one )
which launch the halt command ?

thanks for any comments/suggestions

TOM

Hi Tom,
a lot of the software that is needed during the boot process is in the writable part of the filesystem, so it is not entirely safe to power off the device without proper shutdown. Although it happened very rarely (twice if I recall correctly), sometimes an abrupt power-off did leave my Red Pitaya in need of a fresh re-imageing of the sd-card.
