Hey guys,
I installed the libraries used by ModelSim:
$ apt-get install libxft2 libxft2:i386 lib32ncurses5
I downloaded the starter version of ModelSim 16.1 from Altera and installed it.
Assuming the hint in the Developers Guide that the install process on Ubuntu still fails to create an appropriate path to the executable files is also valid for 16.1, I executed:
$ ln -s $HOME/intelFPGA/16.1/modelsim_ase/linux $HOME/intelFPGA/16.1/modelsim_ase/linux_rh60
To start ModelSim I did:
$ cd ~/intelFPGA/16.1/modelsim_ase/bin
$ ./vsim
I still get the error:
./../linux_rh60/vish: error while loading shared libraries: libXext.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Some help would be appreciated.
Thx!

Re: Run and Install ModellSim 16.1
Installing these 32bit packages on a 64bit system fixed the problem:
$ apt-get install libxrender1:i386 libxtst6:i386 libxi6:i386
$ apt-get install libxrender1:i386 libxtst6:i386 libxi6:i386
