per-application FPGA image?
Hi,
Are there any plans to allow each application to (optionally) load its own custom FPGA image?
The code for doing so has been commented out in the release 0.90 nginx patches, and I haven't been
able to find any git commits that fix the problem which led to disabling this feature.
I apologize in advance if my search of the forums has missed something obvious, but
several of the pertinent search terms are disallowed as "too frequent".
Thanks,
John B.

Hi John,
You didn't miss anything, this topic slipped beyond the radar for some time.
I just tried to reactivate the feature and experienced no problems with it. Furthermore I could not find a reason why the situation described in the code comments should occur.
So maybe it's time to re-activate it, I'll put it up for discussion.

Do any of the stock applications need to load their own FPGA images?

Re: per-application FPGA image?
The original fpga bitstream contains all functions that are neccessary to run the stock applications.
So, no they don't.
(and the infrastructure to load a new bitstream from the app is currently not active, so they could not if they needed to)

Re: per-application FPGA image?
One more thing to add to this topic:
It seems that loading a new bitstream only works for a limited number of times per reboot, if you are using Vivado bitstream files.
This applies only to the unaltered Vivado output (eg. red_pitaya_top.bit), not for the prom file format (output of promgen), which can be re-loaded without limit.

Hi,
can it be, that in the new OS 0.95 the applications loads her own FPGA images?
I ask because this thread is more than one year old.

Yes, the bazaar support for application specific bitstreams was added sometime during the later 0.94 releases.

Hi Nils,
where can I find the source which select the corresponding FPGA file for a specific app?

Re: per-application FPGA image?
It's done in rp_bazaar_app.c function rp_bazaar_app_load_fpga() which is called from rp_bazaar_cmd.c.
