Reason for sampling delays in lcr.c

The acquire_data() function in lcr.c (line 1305 and line 1324) has a leading delay of 50ms and trailing delay of 30ms. These delays are not found in the analogous function in acquire.c (line 244).

Can anyone please explain the reason that these delays are needed? Presently the latency of an acquisition in lcr.c is over 100ms.
