It's working now. Right, firstly you were right, I can't believe I didn't see that it was the wrong netmask. Need some rest. Secondly, by saying that these three files are not used in 0.94, it means that any change there doesn't matter. Was it only the changes in the 3.4GB partition that are required? Anyway, apologies for essentially spamming.

It's like this: if you are booting into a 0.94 ecosystem, the the distro that's on the big partition will be used, along with its network configuration. If you are booting into a 0.92 ecosystem, a stripped down buildroot environment will be used, which has its own network settings in those three files.
