Redpitaya with wifi never works

Post by mahi2712 » Thu May 04, 2017 11:01 am

Hello

Red pitaya never works for me with the Wifi as it works fine with the lan. Can anyone help me out to figure the reason?
I am trying to do the same process as prescribed by the manual but not able to update or edit the wpa_supplicant.conf file.

I burnt the latest red pitaya image on the SD card then connected the card serially.
in the directory /etc/wpa_supplicant/
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Feb 23 14:19 ./
drwxr-xr-x 68 root root 4096 Feb 23 14:09 ../
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 937 Jan 19 2016 action_wpa.sh*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 25892 Jan 19 2016 functions.sh*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4696 Jan 19 2016 ifupdown.sh*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 34 Feb 23 14:19 wpa_supplicant.conf -> /opt/redpitaya/wpa_supplicant.conf

I tried to edit the wpa_supplicant.conf file
But it never let me write anything on the wpa_supplicant.conf file and respond back as Can't open the linked file to writing.

I tried to remove the link and wpa_supplicant.conf file vanishes automatically from the directory.
and created a new wpa_supplicant.conf file and wrote the generic stuff according to my wifi details

ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant

# WPA configuration example
network={
# ssid="<YOUR_SSID>"
ssid="moto"
scan_ssid=1
proto=WPA RSN
# key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
key_mgmt=WPA2-PSK
pairwise=CCMP TKIP
group=CCMP TKIP
# psk="<YOUR_PASSPHRASE>"
psk="123454321"
}

But it never works out with the wifi IP 192.168.128.1 or 192.168.128.24.

I think the main issue the wpa_supplicant.conf file. Does anyone have any idea how to fix the issue?

Thank you
Gautam

The partition the conf file is stored on is mounted read only, since it is Fat32 which gets easily corrupted on power off.

Use the command "rw" to remount it in read/write mode, and "ro" to remount it in read only mode.

Thanks Izi for your reply but I figured it out a bit earlier.
I will share the process which I followed maybe it will help other guy's if they face this kind of issue.

1)insert the wifi adapter in the red pitaya card and connect your red pitaya card serially with your computer.
2)type the following commands:
i) rw
ii)wpa_passphrase <ssid> [passphrase] > /opt/redpitaya/wpa_supplicant.conf
iii)systemctl restart wpa_supplicant_wext@wlan0wext.service
3)restart your red pitaya card and access the red pitaya through ssh with the IP address as 192.168.8.100.

Good luck .

Hi,

I have the same problem on my pitaya.
I did all your steps and it's not working.
Here my wpa_supplicant.conf :

Code: Select all

network={
        ssid="U*******Fi"
        #psk="L********3"
        psk=a54b3*******************************************************************6287
}
and when I do a "ip addr show" it don't have a wifi IP address

Code: Select all

root@rp-f04d61:~# ip addr show
[***]
4: wlan0wext: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state DOWN group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 00:13:ef:60:20:e7 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
If I configure it with the graphical web interface, the page is in loading state and never stop.
Do you have any idea ?

thank you !

Sorry, it was because the repitaya was connected by lan at the same time, so the wifi didn't activate.
Your post was very useful, thanks a lot !
