trouble with sd card image

Post by rdurkacz » Sun Jun 04, 2017 5:44 am

I am having trouble getting started, using the sd card that was supplied with the RP. It shows signs of corruption and web services do not seem to have started up properly -cannot ssh.
I have downloaded fresh images both 'stable' and 'beta' and written onto SD cards. fsck cannot handle 'stable' image, saying to 'get a new e2fsck', but it passes beta version. I can get serial debug console with stable version -systemctl talks about failed fsck demon or something like that. beta version hangs after getting started -red led stops flashing.
Someone will know what is going wrong. I am using conventional environment.
Also, maust be unrelated, but why does u-boot.scr have garbled first line (as displayed by ubuntu gedit?)

Hi,
we suggest that you first make sure of the following:
- power supply you are using must provide up to 2A otherwise you can expect strange behaviour of the board
- make sure you have properly installed OS to your SD card (http://redpitaya.readthedocs.io/en/late ... Dcard.html)
- try to connect to your RP following these instructions (http://redpitaya.readthedocs.io/en/late ... first.html)
- if the SD card seems broken or corrupted please try with another one
- if non of the above helps, please connect to your RP using USB console and attach console output so that
we can investigate further
best regards, Red Pitaya team

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I don't see how to attach a file so do I just dump the log here?

This is how I put the file system together having downloaded your stable version of RP:
sudo dd if=redpitaya_ubuntu_15-04-44_23-feb-2017.img of=/dev/sdb bs=1M
16GB SD card

Here is the result of fsck:
robert@asus:~/pitaya/pd3$ sudo fsck /dev/sdb1
fsck from util-linux 2.20.1
fsck.fat 3.0.26 (2014-03-07)
/dev/sdb1: 856 files, 16352/60289 clusters

robert@asus:~/pitaya/pd3$ sudo fsck /dev/sdb2
fsck from util-linux 2.20.1
e2fsck 1.42.9 (4-Feb-2014)
/dev/sdb2 has unsupported feature(s): metadata_csum
e2fsck: Get a newer version of e2fsck!

The usb console log ( At the end of it, the processor hangs, red led stops flashing) :

Hi,
seems like your Red Pitaya is offline and discovery service cannot reach our server.
The process will timeout in 2min so all you need to do is wait a bit.
This thing will be fixed in next OS release.
kind regards, Red Pitaya team

No, it is a good deal weirder than that. To begin with the red led "heartbeat" stops so I suppose the processor is really hanging. It is on-line anyway, and though it tends to hang at the same point, since I disabled the discovery step in the start-up scripts it just hangs somewhere else, before or after.

You mentioned that "strange" behaviour can be expected if the power supply is weak. I am using your 2A power supply, but let's say there could be something wrong with it. I am getting strange behaviour - is it consistent with a bad power supply?
