STEMLab 125-10 console connection

Post by myersmat » Sat Feb 04, 2017 8:44 pm

Hello,

I'm trying to access the console on my RP STEMLab 125-10, but all the information I can find about this pertains to the 125-14, which has a CON micro usb port for this purpose. Since mine does not have this port, I was wondering if anyone has any information on setting up the console connection using a serial to USB adapter. I have a USB to serial FTDI cable (https://www.creatroninc.com/product/ftd ... -cable-5v/) - Is this cable that is being described in the instructions? If so, can someone describe the connection to me? If not, can someone provide instructions and perhaps a link to the proper cable?

Thanks!

The cable you linked looks to be of the right kind. The USB side goes into your PC and you need to install FTDI serial drivers as described in the manual.

I don't have a STEMlab 125-10, so I can't tell you exactly where the 6pin header must be connected to. As a general rule, you only need to have RX, TX, and GND connected, the other signals are not required. If you can not identify appropriate pins on the 125-10, ask support@redpitaya.com for guidance.

First, take care you need the 3.3volt version of the USB to serial FTDI cable.
Then you need to solder a 3pins header on the board, next to the USB connector.
Then only 3 wires of connector (GND, TX, RX) are needed.

Thanks - I actually have the 3.3V as well so I'm good to go. Just didn't see the console pins on the RP.

Thanks!

The pins are not there, only 3 holes (labeled GND, RX, TX) just on the right of USB port.
You have to solder a 3 pins header. It's not so difficult.

By the way, schematics for the 125-10 are now available here.
