Issues connecting huawei modem 3G

Post by fabarri » Thu Oct 19, 2017 11:20 am

Hello!

I have been working with Red Pitaya just for a couple of months. I have configured it as oscilloscope, to capture signals. For that purpose it works perfectly well.

Yet, I’ve been dealing with it for the last two weeks trying to make a Huawei 3G modem work on it and I did not manage it.

I have installed some network packages for Ubuntu, install the “setserial”, “usb-modeswitch” , “wvdial” packages and some others, and it is not working.

I have 2 modems (E160 and E3131) and I have different problems.

With E3131:
I managed to change it from “mass storage device” to modem. Yet, it gets disconnected after few seconds. Then, I can’t carry out the connection steps and I don’t know if they would work.

With E160:
It does not get disconnected. I carry out the connection steps and the don’t work because the device is still recognized as mass storage, even though I use the usb-modeswitch.

Please, could anyone help me??

Thank you!

I need to to connect a 3G modem. I'm trying with the previous mentioned ones, but I could try any other model/brand if any one can provide information about how to do it.

Thanks!!

If I'm not mistaken, the required CDC and HUAWEI drivers aren't included in the Linux kernel that comes with the Red Pitaya OS images.

Here is a link to the latest Linux kernel configuration in the Red Pitaya repository:

https://github.com/RedPitaya/linux-xlnx ... _defconfig

As you can see, it doesn't have any CDC option enabled.

I have the CDC and HUAWEI options enabled in the patch that I'm using to build Linux kernel for Red Pitaya:

https://github.com/pavel-demin/red-pita ... ch#L34-L37

However, I never tested this kernel with 3G/4G modems. So, it's possible that some other options are still missing in my patch.

If you want to try the Linux kernel with my patch, then there are two pre-built SD card images:
Some instructions for Alpine Linux can be found at the following link:

https://wiki.alpinelinux.org/wiki/Using_HSDPA_modem

Only you don't need to edit /etc/modules. Since all the modules are built-in, their configurable parameters should be specified as the kernel boot arguments:

Code: Select all

usbserial.vendor=0x12d1 usbserial.product=0x1446
They should be added to bootargs in uEnv.txt:

https://github.com/pavel-demin/red-pita ... nv.txt#L15

Many thanks!

I will check if that works as soon as possible. Hopefully it will!

Just found an integration userguide for MS2131:

http://consumer.huawei.com/solutions/m2 ... m?id=93984

On page 32, it lists the required Linux modules.

Some of them were not enabled in my patch. I've added them with this commit.
