Scopegenpro stops working after a while
Hello,
My ecosystem is (flashed image 0.94 RC23):
Linux redpitaya 4.0.0-xilinx #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Dec 28 16:16:54 CET 2015 armv7l
##############################################################################
# Red Pitaya GNU/Linux Ecosystem
# Version: 0.94
# Branch: master
# Build: 561
# Commit: bac9213e2288e2b141d69ec97cade3f8037963f4
##############################################################################
I'm using Firefox 43.0.4 on 64-Bit Kubuntu.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS
Release: 14.04
Codename: trusty
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
as suggested.
The RP is connected with 1Gb ethernet on the local network and is cooled by a fan to ~45°C.
Scopegenpro is the only application running in the browser.
I'm feeding the RP from an external function generator with a sine, sqare or triangle signal with 200kHz.
My scope settings are:
Time 1us/div
1V/div
125MS/s
After a while (12 minutes or also 52 minutes)) I get a script error:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warning: Unresponsive script
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding.
You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue.
Script: http://redpitaya1/scopegenpro/js/zlib_a ... .min.js:41
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before the script error appears, the memory consumption of firefox increases from ~400MB to 1.5GB.
After hitting "Stop", a red "Performance problem has occurred" message appears in the lower left corner.
With the free scope app, this error does not appear.
I noticed, that one of the new features (introduced with RC22) is the compression of the transferred data.
Is the compression only be used by the "Pro Apps" or also for all apps?
Looking into the folders "/opt/redpitaya/www/apps/..." the script "zlib_and_gzip.min.js" is only present for scopegenpro and spectrumpro.
Nevertheless the browser reports a problem with that script.
Kindly regards,
Hartmut

Hi Hartmut,
try using chrome when working with the redpitaya.
Firefox seems to have problems with running the scope scripts.
Regards Hans

Re: Scopegenpro stops working after a while
Hi Hans,
thank you for your reply.
Tried Google Chrome before, but investigated a little bit more during the last days.
It seems, the longer the application runs on a device, the fewer the browser stucks. This applies to all browsers I tried.
I tried running Google Chrome Version 47.0.2526.111 (64-bit).
I get also: "Unresponsive error", and I have to press several times "wait" until it runs a longer time after recovery, but stucks later again.
Here you see the recovery process.
When the red line in the upper window drops, the network load (lower window) increases to 1MB/s. After the period of recovery, the network load reverts to normal.
While the browser stucks, the CPU temperature increases up to 89°C (black is CPU, green is GPU).
Trying Opera 34.0.2036.47.
It runs without a script error, but also stucks.
After the stuck, it self recovers after minutes, but stucks later after a longer phase of working.
I may post some links to more screen shots regarding the behaviour of recovering of Opera.
For example here is one:
Last device I tried, was an Android Tablet (Nexus 10).
Same behaviour as before. It stucks while running the application.
But different to the linux browsers, after closing the browser window on the tablet and switching it of, the nginx worker process kept running on the RP.
Regards
Hartmut

Re: Scopegenpro stops working after a while
Hello, me again,
I've done some tests with Windows7 (other hardware than the linux system) and Chrome.
Beside the given error occurs on the Windows system as well, I noticed that there is much less CPU usage on windows7 (8% over all CPU's) than on linux (50% over all CPU's).
Why?
Both systems has Nvidia graphic cards (Linux GTX-670, Windows GTX-760).
Regards,
Hartmut

Re: Scopegenpro stops working after a while
I have the same problem with WIN7 and firefox 44.0.2
Too bad, since due to that problem the pro scope can in fact not be used, not even with trigger in automatic mode
I hope these bugs will be fixed soon.

Hi guys,
Thanks for reporting this issue.
We will look at it ASAP.
One question:
What happens if you run the Scope on another PC with only
one browser window/tab active?
Kind Regards, RP

Re: Scopegenpro stops working after a while
Hello everyone.
We figured out that the problem was in JS library gzip. It was memory leaking in this library. So we decided to replace it with PacoJS. In latest builds 0.96 you can have this library. Please check it and let us know if this works for you ok.
