HDSDR, openHPSDR via WLAN

Post by micgu » Thu Feb 04, 2016 4:03 pm

Dear Users,

i enter into the internet with my tablet, Andoid 4.4. My RedPitaya board i switch as AP or as Client. In the last case it was possible to load Apps from the marketplace and to run them. Also i could comnect my PC, Windows 10, so i have build up a net of 1 AP and 2 Clients. All with access to the internet and working with the RP like above.

Now i wanted to use HDSDR together with ExtIO-RedPitaya-TRX.dll but nothing was succesful:
1) RX: no noise and no fog on the screen.
2)TX:the program told me that the ExtIO does not support TX.

Then i tried openHPSDR Android with my tablet:
It told that no device was found.

Who can help, who can tel me that there is missing something i also should install.
And last but not least: who knows that this porgrams work if they are connected via WLAN etc..

Best regards and hoping any solution
Michael

Hi Michael,
who knows that this porgrams work if they are connected via WLAN etc.
HDSDR, openHPSDR Android and PowerSDR mRX should work via Wi-Fi.
Then i tried openHPSDR Android with my tablet:
It told that no device was found.
It's possible that openHPSDR Android does not work with your network configuration, where the tablet is connected to two networks.

Could you try to configure Red Pitaya as an access point and connect your tablet as a client to this access point?
TX:the program told me that the ExtIO does not support TX.
This is normal. The HDSDR TX mode is undocumented and I don't know how to implement it on Red Pitaya side. You can find more details at:

Dear Pavel,

many thanks for your answer.

I think that WiFi is WLAN ?

By using openHPSDR Anroid (Java) i only used only my RP-board and my tab!et. I changed AP and Client. No result.

HDSDR works with other ExtIO, but only as RX. With the ExtIO_RedPitaya_TRX.dll nothing goes and i expected a transceiver using this pair.

Any way .... It seems i should try other software or i should buy a small SDR-transceiver, hi.
The Apps from the bazaar are working very good.

Best regards and cu, Michael

Yes, I think that WiFi and WLAN are synonyms.

Could you please make sure that the browser window with the instructions how to run SDR programs remains open? Otherwise, the SDR transceiver application will be stopped.

Here is a step-by-step video of how SDR transceiver compatible with HPSDR is used with PowerSDR mRX:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhoAuqiLbaQ

The following steps should work with the Android application:
  • configure Red Pitaya as a WLAN/WiFi access point
  • connect Android tablet to the Red Pitaya WLAN/WiFi access point
  • via a web browser connect to the Red Pitaya web interface
  • install and run SDR transceiver compatible with HPSDR
  • don't close the browser window
  • start openHPSDR Android application
  • follow the instruction from this link
It's also possible to start the Red Pitaya SDR application at boot. This way, you don't need to start it via a web browser. There are two solutions:
  • add the following lines to /etc/rc.local:

    Code: Select all

    dir=/opt/redpitaya/www/apps/sdr_transceiver
    cat $dir/sdr_transceiver.bit > /dev/xdevcfg
    . $dir/start.sh

  • download and install the customized SD card image following the instructions from this link
