Hi,
I'm wondering why the web apps located in apps-free are not using the RedPitaya Api. With the exception of PID, all necessary functions should be included in the api, right? Is it because of some disadvantages/deficiencies of the Api or did the api just not exist, when those apps were written?
regards
Why make the apps-free WebApps no use of the RedPitaya Api?

Well, as you already hypothesised, the API didn't exist when the apps were initially written. Why it's not been used later is anybody's guess, but probably because there's just no incentive to use it when the apps are working ok as they are.

Ok. Can I use the Api and the PID (pid.c, fpga_pid.c, pid.h, fpga_pid.h from scope/src) together?

I'd say so. They don't mmap overlapping memory regions so there are no apparent conflicts.
