HPSDR popping problem

Post by Ferrari2 » Fri Oct 19, 2018 12:37 pm

Hi

First of all I would like to thanks all the guys developing the Red Pitaya and SDR SW for the hardware (HPSDR, QUISK and more).

I am using Red Pitaya with HPSDR and unfortunately have the popping issue Manfred mentioned at the site referred to below. According fine and detailed tests Manfred stated it seems to be a winsock2 issue. Does anybody know if some developing is going on to solve the problem or does it help returning to Windows XP to eliminate the problem?

More information about the popping problem using HPSDR with Red Pitaya:

Kind regards

This issue is almost resolved in the latest release.
Are you using the latest PowerSDR v3.4.9?
Which Windows are you using? In my case Win10 performs much better than Win7 ever does in this special discipline.
In Win7 I always noticed some crackling sound and dropouts using the same Computer.
Are you using a GB Network? You should.
Are you using the latest network drivers?
Is your Red Pitaya connected via Network Hub or directly?

First of all it depends on your settings in PowerSDR.
I have made the settings according to a thread in apache labs forum and the dropouts are nearly zero.

Since I use Win10 i can also use the Microsoft Direct Sound driver without significant differences to the ASIO driver.

Returning to XP would not be an option for me and I can not imagine that it makes sense.

Hi DH1KLM

Thanks for your reply.

You are asking some very good questions and here is my answers.

Are you using the latest PowerSDR v3.4.9?
F: Yes I am using the latest PowerSDR v3.4.9

Which Windows are you using?
F: I am running Windows 10

Are you using a GB Network?
F: Yes I am using a GB interface direct cabling in my router for the Red Pitaya and for my computer.

Are you using the latest network drivers?
F: Yes I am using the latest network driver for my computer.

Is your Red Pitaya connected via Network Hub or directly?
F: My Red Pitaya and my computer is connected directly to the same broadband modem/router.

Additional information is, that my Red Pitaya is updated with the latest FW.

I have been trying to set the "VAC 1" as you suggests using Windows directSound or Virtual Audio Cable. Unfortunately I have the crackling sound in both settings.

I have noticed the crackling is much less soundable, when "Resampler" is checked in "VAC 1". The crackling is still present, but the sound of it is much softer then without "Resampler" checked.

Kind regards
Ferrari

Hmm.. sounds strange.
Some things to try...
Connect the RP LAN cable directly to your computer.
Make sure your networkspeed is Gbit.
Speakersettings in Windows set to 16 Bit, 48000 Hz?
Try ASIO4all driver.

What are your settings in HPSDR/AUDIO/PRIMARY/ ?
Experiment with "Buffer Size" and "Latency" also in "VAC 1"

If non from the above works, I am out of ideas.

You could also ask your questions in http://forum.cq-nrw.de/
It is german forum for Red Pitaya SDR and so on.
The main language is german, but don't hesitate to ask in english.

PS: whats about your OOOPs counter? What does it show?
