How to make RS-232 default console port?

I asked this question before but must have gotten dropped by the outage that RedPitaya had this week.
I am using the Ethernet for data movement in my system. I would like to have the RS232 port be the console by default. Anyone know how to do that? Do you use ssh into this port or rlogin?
Any pointers would be welcome!
