Is it possible to use external reference signal for demodulation?

Hi all,
I am using PyRPL (https://pyrpl.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) to operate the RedPitaya as a Lock-in Amplifier. The IQs module in PyRPL are doing incredible job in modulating and demodulating signal using the reference signal generated by the RedPitaya itself. However, I am wondering if it is possible to modulate and demodulate signal using an external reference signal instead. I am asking because I would like to use the external reference signal in two different RedPitayas for demodulation.
I would appreciate if you can share your thoughts/ideas on how to make this work.
