Long term running application

Post by Alexis » Tue Feb 17, 2015 3:31 pm

Hello everyone,

I'm having an issue while trying to run my application for a long time (few days).
After few hours the connection to the redpitaya seems to be lost.
I'm using the ethernet connection with windows8 OS and eclipse luna.

First i was launching my application from eclipse and i had the following error after few hours : "connection to xxx.xxx.x.x lost"

Then i tryed to lanch my app from the command line utility (i installed Cygwin) :
- connect to the RP : "ssh root@xxx.xxx.x.x"
- enter default password : "root"
- launch my app (previously loaded into the RP by eclipse) : "/tmp/myapp"
Again i got the following error after few hours : "connection reset by peer".

Am i doing something wrong ?
Is there a connection timeout that i can set somewhere ?
Or maybe another way to launch my app so it can run infinitely ?

Any help/suggestion might be very nice.
Thanks.

Hello everyone,

After some investigations i found a few hints to solve my problem.

First i misunderstood something : my problem doesn't come from the connection since i can remove the ethernet cable and my application still executes.
The problem might come from a local timeout in the redpitaya's processing system while launching my application.
However i'm totally not sure of that. Maybe some kind of signal is needed to keep the execution going.

Anyway i did a few things that allow my app to run over the night (i'll try over the following week-end) :
- I disabled a feature of my network card that allowed my computer to shut it down for energy saving purposes.
- I disabled any kind of "sleep mode" on my computer.
- I donwloaded my application into the non-volatile part of the RP's memory ("/opt/bin/myapp" instead of "/tmp/myapp").

Have a good week-end and thanks for your help.

Alexis
