Save energy: sleep mode?

Post by FWIX » Wed Jul 29, 2015 1:13 pm

Hi!

Using the RP for quite some time now, and very pleased with its capabilities, I'm looking to control its energy consumption.
I'm working on a remote RP powered by solar panel and battery. But as you may suspect, the RP drain all the power after a few hours. My question is then: How to implement a sleep mode (that could be triggered with an internal timeout and wake up with an extrenal WiFi/Ethernet signal, maybe using a watchdog)?
That's a tricky question, and I haven't found any solution yet except using an external power switch...

Thanks for the help! ;)

Hi,

Google finds a couple of interesting links about ZYNQ and suspend:

http://www.wiki.xilinx.com/Zynq+Power+M ... nt#Suspend
http://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Embedded-Li ... d-p/416175
https://github.com/Xilinx/linux-xlnx/co ... ee7fcecc4e

So, looks like ZYNQ supports some kind of suspend and wake-on-lan functionality.

I suggest you to try it with the most recent kernel versions provided by Xilinx (2015.1 or 2015.2.01).

For example, you can find an SD card image based on Linux 3.18.0-xilinx-2015.1 and Debian 8.0 at the following location:

Cheers,

Pavel
