Hi there,
I can access the RP with root and password root over SSH. That's great of course.
But from a security point of view I would like to change the password. How should one do that?
I have tried with passwd and succeeded. However, after a reboot the password is root again. So how can I store the changed password?
Thanks a lot

Re: change root password
The issue is probably with the buildroot-based components (which was all that's available prior to 0.94). In the Debian scenario, changing the root password obviously works, as attested by previous posts.
With the buildroot environment that uses a ramdisk as primary filesystem, it's just not possible to persistently change the password in the running system. The only option is to set a different (non-changeable) password during the ecosystem build.

Re: change root password
Hi and thank you all for the replies.
I realise that I am not using the normal image as Nils already suggested, but I am using the image for the SDR tranceiver, which you can find here:

So, my only optoin here is to fully rebuild the image with a new password embedded?
