VNA connection timeout

Hello,
I want to start VNA from Pavel. But I always get "connection timeout" after starting the control program (vna.exe).
The steps I have done:
1) Connect RP with the network cable to PC (LAN). WiFi-adapter removed.
2) Switch the RP on.
3) Waiting some time (variable long).
4) Starting local connection.
5) After the list with apps appear, I select Vector Network Analyzer.
6) Now I start vna.exe.
7) I write into the connect field rp-xxxxxx.local or alternatively my IP address.
8) After a while I always get the message "connection timeout".

I know, the app already worked in the past. The only two thing that were changed, are
- New notebook with Win11
- The entry into the EEPROM: root@rp-f01c3d:~# fw_setenv hw_rev STEM_125-14_v1.0, which was before just 1.1.

I will try it again with the old PC with Win7, which functioned ok in the past.

Best regards

Dieter

Interim result: The old Win7 notebook works ok with VNA. So, the question is, what the difference is in respect to the new Win11 notebook. By the latter, everything else with RP works okay, wired and WiFi connection with RP.

It's difficult to analyse it. Maybe Win11 makes too many restrictions to go into a network. No idea at the moment ...

One thing is different: I have to use an external LAN (USB-Hub with LAN), because the notebook does not provide a LAN connector. I am not sure if VNA can use that. Maybe Pavel knows this.

I wanted to start another test with a different PC, which has LAN connector. I just copied the whole directory vna-win32-20220322 to this PC and started wired connection, until the app's selection is provided. Then select VNA, but an error message comes: Errors in vna.exe. Listing the logfile brings:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "exec.py", line 4, in <module>
File "<string>", line 29, in <module>

ImportError: Failed to import any qt binding

Copying the directory seems to be insufficient. Maybe somebody knows what to do.

Hello Dieter,

Which OS are you using?

Hello,

RP's OS is from Pavel (red-pitaya-alpine-3.14-armv7-20220322) and on PC-side it is either Win10 with these special error messages (traceback ...) or Win11 with connection timeout. Both PCs are running ok with wired connection, when using RedPitaya_OS_2.00-15_beta.img as OS, so the general network connection seems to work without any problem.

Kind regards

Dieter

I am sorry, but we do not provide support for the 3rd party software (the Alpine version of the OS). I suggest you contact Pavel to inform him of the issue (also check his GitHub as there might already be a fix for this): https://github.com/pavel-demin/red-pitaya-notes

Please be kind to him as he does this in his free time.

Best regards

Oh ok. I thought, because it appears on the RP main window, then it belongs to the standard apps. But anyway, I found a workaround for the LAN connector problem.

Hello Bulova,

The application in the main menu of Red Pitaya's OS is a copy of Pavel Demin's application.

If you have problems starting the VNA application, connecting to it, or disconnecting issues (and similar issues), please contact us, and we will fix it. For this part, we do offer support.

If particular features inside the application are not working as intended, please contact Pavel.
