Strange output when connecting redpitaya using USB serial

I am a new firmware engineer and I am trying to play with red pitaya. When I use picocom to access the device through the serial port, it gave me this strange output. The terminal keeps outputting that square character repeatedly. Any idea what might be wrong and how can I fix it?

The command I use is: picocom -b 115200 /dev/ttyUSB0 I am sure the bandrate is correct.

The output is normal when on my Windows when I use putty. The problem only exists on my Ubuntu (14.04 LTS).
