Maximal output current of GPIO pins

Post by liorgolgher » Wed Jul 20, 2016 9:58 am

Hi Nils,

How much current can I get from each GPIO pin of the Red Pitaya? And how much current from all GPIO pins simultaneously? I'd like to transmit TTL signals to a 110 ohm load (VOH-min = 2 Volts) and I'm not sure I could get enough current from the Red Pitaya.

Thanks,
Lior

Hi Lior,

the drivers of the GPIOs are configured for a drive strength of 8mA (applies to sourcing and sinking). I think the power supply is sufficient to drive the max current on all GPIOs simultaneously.

Thanks Nils,

Is it possible to reconfigure the drivers to output higher currents? If so, how?

Thanks,
Lior

As far as I know the only way to reconfigure them is to edit the drive strength in the constraints file and build a new bitstream. Supported values are 4, 8, 12, 16.
