Red Pitaya not responding

Post by lene85 » Tue Sep 08, 2015 3:12 pm

Hello,

from one day to another, my RedPitaya stopped responding on both ethernet and usb. It has been on for less than 2 months now, and I have 3 others which are working just fine and some of them have been used for more than a year.

When I try to connect via ssh or http, the connection attempt times out. When I try to connect with a usb cable with putty, it says "Unable to open connection to COM8 Unable to open serial port". It says that independent of whether the RedPitaya is powered up or not, while another (working) RedPitaya lets me connect in either state on the same cable without problem.

However, the blue and green LED's are constantly on and the yellow one is blinking at roughly 1 Hz.

Does anyone have an idea what might be going on? I had the RedPitaya connected on the external trigger input pin, but never sent anything apart from 0 or 3.3 V, and it stopped working in the middle of a conversation through ssh for no obvious reason.

I also swapped the SD cards between this RedPitaya and a working one: The working one works with either SD card, the "broken" one with neigher one.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer, Leo

I don't really know how but now the USB console started working, outputting the following info

Hmm, the boot progresses normally until the "uncompression error" line, meaning the kernel image loaded and started succesfully but unpacking the ramdisk's contents failed, leaving the OS without a primary file system. Since you cross-tested the SD card with other Red Pitayas, I presume corruption of the ramdisk image is out of the question.

That leaves hardware problems as the next most probable cause. Some contributers on Xilinx forums link this error to faulty RAM, if only as a suggestion.
