HELP! I need the INIT.D-folder back or an alternative

Hello,
I switched to the new OS but I am missing the init.d folder. I need it for setting a hostname for my local network and nfs mounting. I am using a cutomized fstab, profile and rcS. The most important thing are the start up commands in rcS. Where is this resolved in the new version?? Does anybody know?
