RP won't connect to the internet

Post by Eleanor.Milner@renishaw.com » Tue Jun 30, 2015 8:25 am

OK! So I have followed all the instructions I can find and nothing has worked. Please forgive the brief brief, I've only had the device a few days and I'm not certain what information to give! I've checked the forum and wiki as best I can for answers but couldn't find anything that worked.

What I've done:
I downloaded the SD image etc and that boots up just fine.
I edited the document to put in my SSID and PSK which definitely saved.
I have plugged in the SD card and power supply, and the red pitaya shows up as a device on the network that I can access but I can't open the IP page (or in fact any web page) in Internet Explorer or Chrome.

Indicators:
The blue LED is on constantly and the orange one flashes, and the LED on my wifi dongle flashes too, so I believe there is communication between the RP and the network.

Does anyone know how to fix this? If there is no way to fix the problem, is there a way to download the up-to-date applications manually? Or does it have to be the outdated ones?

Many thanks,
Eleanor

Hi,
Try to use original SD image (without any changes).
If you have WiFi dongle try to connect to the RP
WiFI network “RedPitaya” .
When you are connected via WiFi you must use
standard IP “192.168.128.1”. (Input this IP into web browser)
Regards

I've tried doing this but it just comes up with the message "Safari cannot open the page 'http://www.192.168.128.1/' because your ipad is not connected to the Internet." which is the same problem as before.

Many thanks,
Eleanor

The "www." in there with the IP address is probably not helping.

Have you tried to type in the complete address - like "http://192.168.128.1/" - to suppress any wellmeaning autocomplete from the browser ?

Apoloigies, yes I did try that and it's a slightly different error message "Safari cannot open the page because it could not connect to the server".

Many thanks,

Have you tried connecting with SSH (following this description) ? If that works, it'll open further avenues for diagnosis.

I've tried this, however it seems that putty is not finding the red pitaya from the IP at all. It starts to connect and then throws "network error: Connection timeout." I can find the network it throws up in my wifi settings though.

Well, the next step to shed some light on the issue would be to try to connect directly to the Red Pitaya via the CONsole usb port (see user manual).

From there you can check what the RP's network status really is, see if the webserver is running, etc.

I managed to work out what was wrong with my RP this weekend. I had unzipped the files using a bad piece of software, so unzipping them with new software worked a charm.

Thank you for your help.
