Post by pa0slt » Sat Oct 05, 2019 6:21 pm

Hi Wim,
thank you for asking.

I think if you watch this 5 min video you will have a good idea about how to connect to it and you will see also a short scope demo in this time:

Hi redpitaya site admin,
Thanks for your reply, but i think the link does not give the info i need.

I do run on this redpitaya the PAVEL software.
connecting it to my local network goes pefect.
But i need connection with it, when it is not on my local network.
It must operate at an other local network, and i like to change things
then from my home via the internet

i normaly use VNC or Teamviewer to reach my raspberry pi's at other locations.

So, what can i do?

Hi Wim,

I'm afraid it's almost impossible to answer your question without knowing the exact configuration of the network connection at the remote site.

If you can connect to a VNC server running on a Raspberry Pi board with a similar network configuration, then I think it should be possible to connect to an SSH server running on a Red Pitaya board.

With the very limited amount of information you provide, the only answer to your questions I can think of is to try to connect to your remote Red Pitaya board using SSH:

Code: Select all

ssh root@ip_address_of_your_remote_red_pitaya_board
If this is not the answer you are looking for, then please provide a very detailed description of the network configuration at the remote site.

Best regards,

Pavel

Hi Pavel,
first: i am very impressed by your software. The WSPR tranceiver program is now running
for more than a month without any faults on 8 frequencies. ( PA0SLT/5)

Now i like to put an redpitaya with this software at a remote location. ( to do ionosferic
measurements in relation tot earth quakes)
I do only know the SSID and the password of that location.
My raspberry pi had no problems there. I can connect to it from my home with VNC.
With this SSID and password i can connect to that network whith my telephone and laptop.

But i can not put an ethernet cable to the router....
So i have to do all via the usb wifi dongel.
i hope i can write this SSID and password in the software when it is in my home.
Then i hope it will connect with that other network.
I think i can handle this.

but now i like to stop the whisper program at the remote location.
Or start it again or change some parameters.
That is the core of my problem.

Is the command you provided to start a ssh server on the redpitaya?

i am going to try this with a spare redpitaya at my home.

i keep you informed

Wim

PS. i am a retired geologist and a radio ham for about 55 years.
I do all kind of radio measurements. For example a made a map of
the radio-sky with phasing interferometry at 31 MHz. ( like LOFAR does)
i wrote all the software myself in Pure Basic and Bascom for AVR processors,
including the 2D-FFT routine.

Please provide more details about the configuration of your raspberry pi and how you connect to it using VNC. Are you using a service like remote.it or realvnc.com?

Hi Pavel,
In the raspberry pi 3B+ is standard an VNC ( i think ) server program running.
With my windows computers i do use VNC viewer of RealVNC via the VNC cloud.

I hope this is the info you need.

Thanks for the details.

Since your Red Pitaya board is behind a Wi-Fi router and installing realvnc on the Red Pitaya board isn't easy, I think that the easiest solution would be to connect to your Raspberry Pi via VNC and then connect from your Raspberry Pi to the SSH or web interface of your Red Pitaya board.

Ai Pavel,
the raspberry pi will not be there anymore....
so that option is not okee.

so, if there is no way to do what i want, i have to live with it.
I must prepare the redpitaya at home and then put in the other
place. And then hope it will work for a long time.....

And if i want to change anything, i have to drive to that location.
and put an other sd card in it.

With Raspberry Pi Zero W costing around 10 euros (https://www.kiwi-electronics.nl/raspber ... -pi-zero-w), why not buy an additional card just for the RealVNC service?
